چکیده

As the inland and near-coastal waters are under the strongest anthropogenic impact there is need for a better way to monitor their ecological status. European network FP7 project WaterS focuses on creating conditions for strategic dynamic partnerships in the form of long-term cooperation between three research groups and three enterprises with unique complementary expertise and tools. The research objectives are: 1) Improve the interpretation of optical signals from remote sensing platforms for the optically complex Nordic waters through bio-optical modeling of characterized variability in optical properties. 2) Innovation in development of spectral instruments to perform state-of-the-art measurements optimized for aquatic environments. 3) Improved understanding of optically complex waters by means of classification and typification for mapping water bodies by optical signature. 4) Using EO capacities, water quality retrieval algorithms and GIS systems develop of novel product for lake water quality and ecological assessment.

Assessment of water quality in Blinaja River Basin (Kosovo) using the Canadian Water Quality Index (WQI)

Kosovo has limited natural water resources which should be well managed. This is recently realised through quantitative and qualitative monitoring of both surface and groundwater and by characterizing their quality according to their destination. In this paper, the Water Quality Index (WQI) developed by the Canadian Council of Environment Ministers (CCME WQI) was applied to evaluate the groundw...

Retrieval of particulate backscattering in coastal/oceanic waters

Accurate retrieval of particulate backscattering coefficients has been a great challenge in optically complex Case 2 waters. Although several models exist for retrieval of the Inherent Optical Properties (IOP’s) such as particulate backscattering (bbp) from the remote sensing reflectance, these models produce bbp with high errors mainly because of improper parameterization or inappropriate defi...

A bio-optical model based method of estimating total suspended matter of Lake Taihu from near-infrared remote sensing reflectance.

Total suspended matter is an important water quality parameter, and plays a key role in water quality evaluation, especially of inland waters. Many different methods have been developed to estimate TSM from remote sensing data, in which empirical methods and model-based methods are two types of commonly used methods. Compared with empirical methods, model-based methods have the advantages of de...

Spectral Reflectance Signatures of Case Ii Waters

Sea-truth water sampling campaigns were carried out in the Johore Strait, Singapore from Dec 1996 to Dec 1998, partially funded by NASDA-ESCAP for utilization of ADEOS OCTS data. Water leaving radiance and reflectance data were collected together with coincidental measurements of water quality parameters, including the total suspended solid (TSS) and the chlorophyl-a (Chl-a) loadings. Results o...

Isotope-hydrochemistry of Arnave karstic spring and Shirin dareh dam reservoir, North Khorasan

Surface and groundwater resources such as Arnaveh karstic spring and Shirin Dareh reservoir are the main sources of drinking water and agricultural activity in the North Khorasan province, northeast of Iran. The main agents of this study are to evaluate the origin, hydrochemical and isotope characteristics of water resources and also suitability of the Shirin dareh reservoir water for drinking ...
